i love you guys
After my shower today I thought I would send you a little "I LOVE YOU" picture :)
I want to thank you all for your wonderful advice and sweet compliments. It always brightens my day. I've been seriously considering dying my hair....with this upcoming youtube convention, plus the art show.....I'm not sure I like the way I look. Can you believe it? After all my carrying on about going grey? I may still keep it grey....I just don't know. It's such a hard call. Maybe some sort of temporary dye (hopefully vegetable based...) I don't know. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for your suggestions!
(((HUGS TO ALL)))

I have a little button that reads "Grey is the new blonde"....my hair has been grey for quite some time (I used to keep it blonde) and I actually love it. Although I am considerably older than you!!
You are such a beautiful woman! What an inspiration to me, too. I am a "young" 42. I still love my funky clothing, and everything I loved to adorn as a younger gal. I have a lot of white hair underneath my dark auburn locks. Being a nature girl, too...I've faced the gray dilemma. I let it grow out quite a bit and then decided I was not ready to "get behind the gray." Still didn't feel like me. I found great dye in the health food store...Herbatint and Naturecare are both excellent and more earth and people friendly than the alternatives.
Good Luck with your decision and remember it's okay whatever you choose.
xo,
Cyndy
My Grandmother always had jet black hair until the last few months before she died. I grew up always beleiving that just was my Grandma's natural hair color. Not until she got terribly sick, and bedridden, did she let her "true" hair color show. But to me...that grey hair was never her true identity...or the way she say saw herself or wanted the world to see herself.
I'm 32 years old. My fantastic hair stylist told me that by 35 I will probably have a full head of grey. I let the grey go for quite awhile, then I saw a photo of myself and just didn't like the way it looked. I dye my hair and don't feel bad about it. I like what I look like better without the grey. What matters is what I think when I look in the mirror.
I say if it is causing you this much grief--dye it! See if you feel more at peace with your appearance, and if not, you can always let it grow out--the grey will still be there, and will have invited some more of her friends to the party!
Peace & Love.
Hi Tascha,
You are beautiful grey or not.
I really love that picture of you. May I have your permission to TRY to paint a portrait of you from that picture?
Jane
I understand your dilemma. (I myself can't go grey just yet.) Whatever you choose, I think you are a beautiful lady!
xoxox
What color are your eyes? Blu-ish?
Tascha... I'm thinking you're going to be lovely no matter what you do to your hair. Just go with what feels right to you.
I just colored mine black after over a year of letting it grow in natural. Just a thing, you know?
You guys are the best!
I haven't dyed it yet....not sure I will. I am looking into henna.
Gritty arts, my eyes are green :)
OH NO! I already painted it and made your eyes BLUE!! I started painting the second you said it was ok...it is quite comical and I pray you are not offended in any way...So sorry. I'll touch the color of your eyes up a tiny bit...
My hair was going gray and I looked worn out. I decided to dye it. I went through being too blond and then too dark. Now it is just right. The other thing I like about coloring it is that it gives it more body and texture. I just turned 51 but have been coloring for a few years. I think you have a lovely face and will be pretty no matter what your hair color.
I know I'll use something to cover my grey when it becomes more pronounced. We have the technology to look younger for a longer time and I want to take advantage of that! =) I think a product that fades over time is perfect! That way you aren't committed to nasty roots and can spruce up if you so desire without feeling overly committed.
Hi Tascha,
It's so wonderful to come across someone who is also choosing not to color her hair. It's been 7 months and I haven't colored mine either (this sounds like some sort of AA meeting). I too get down sometimes when I see the grey, until I realize that I’m perfectly presentable and beautiful, as you are, the way God made me. I gave hair color up for many reasons. After I did intense research on chemicals for an area project, I knew I would never go back. I remember talking to my sister about why so many people unconsciously do things to hurt the environment that need not be. She said, "but hair dye is a necessity." I strongly disagreed and partly wanted to prove that's it's not by not coloring my hair. What really put the cherry on the pie for me though, was reading Rachel Carson's Silent Spring. If you ever get a chance, I recommend reading it. You'll find yourself more passionate about why not to color your hair than why to color your hair. If you find you can't give up the hair dye, Henna is an alternative. I've tried it a long time ago and made many different concoctions from flowers petals, roots, and even juice. But hey, you're an artist (and a good one at that) I'm sure you have your own creative ideas on getting past this hair dye thing. Good luck in your endeavors, Lisa
Tascha, grey or no grey - you are beautiful. I love Janes portrait!!!
Tascha, when you first wrote about the "grey" subject, we all talked about wanting to accept ourselves the way we were instead of having to feel that we had to "make ourselves acceptable" by following the standards of what is "pretty." I think that women who love themselves exactly the way they are is the greatest thing. I have yet to be able to do that.
And yet, when you posted a while back wearing that hot pink wig, you talked about being "bored" with the grey. So, you know, maybe it's not just about whether you should accept yourself with the grey. You're an artist, and maybe it's just that, like the rest of us who are artists, you adore color. After all, you don't paint in shades of grey, but beautiful color.
As for chemicals, if that's what you're concerned about, I am reading in these comments about safer hair dyes in the health food stores that I didn't even know about. Sounds like a good alternative.
Either way, you've shown yourself to be a beautiful, intelligent woman. Whatever you decide is the best for you is all that matters.

I agree with the others that you are beautiful either way. But I understand your dilema. I am struggling too, but the color is weakening my hair and causing it to break because of health issues. I use a non permanent color and it doesn't stink. It's Clairol Natural Intincts and lasts about a month if you wash everyday.

Like Connie, my mother died her hair till the last week of her life. The day she died she was 63 years old and had died her hair a couple nights before. She was a strong First Nations woman and loved her black hair that she had had her entire life and did not want grey hair. It was not part of her identity. So if you feel wrong having grey hair then there is nothing wrong with dying it.
Do what feels good to you. Only then will you feel that you be happy. If you keep feeling like there is something wrong with they way you are looking or feeling not complete then find a way to bring yourself peace of mind. Some women go grey, some fight it till the very end. I think I will end up being a fighter. I freak out if I find one. I don't see myself letting it go grey till I am much, much older.
Get some temporary dye and try it. Experimenting with your appearance is not wrong. I have a feeling that you think you are betraying yourself if you give in. Don't give in to that. Let yourself be free to have fun.
I think you should do what makes you feel good. I personally feel better and prettier with blonde hair. It really brightens up my face. Blonde was my natural hair color, but as I got older, it started getting darker.
Now with a few gray hairs coming in, I hardly notice them.
My personal opinion is that you look younger and more striking with darker hair. You look like the girls that you paint. You can always go natural and shouldn't feel any guilt about dying it. There are lots of natural henna's you can use.
I know a lot of ladies who love their gray hair, and that's great. My opinion is, if you love it, keep it. If you don't, change it. Take care and good luck, Karin
Tascha.. I'm 48 and I am not ready to let it go grey yet... Maybe try on a dark wig in a store and see if you like it. Whatever you do, you're beautiful and awesome... people will not think different of you.. it only matters to you. Do what makes you happy.. What's the worst that could happen, either way?
What a sweet pix, Tascha. It says it all. Keep that grey. You are beautiful!
Krissy
What a fantastic pic!
Be careful some times temp. dyes change colours as they fade. Like how my dark red turned pink as it faded!
tascha, you look gorgeous either way ... i think the important thing is to be yourself ... whether that means dark hair, gray or pink ...
my grandmother is 93 and still dyes and perms her hair ... she even had a little bit of plastic surgery around her eyes when she was 85 ... and all that's part of who she is ... it doesn't take a thing away from her authenticity ...
so, dye it brown, leave it gray, stripe it rainbow colors ... whatever feels like you ...
and cyndyava, yeah, 42 IS young! ...
xoxo
